Teacherless Classroom is so radical and innovative, both teachers and students love it. The creator of the unproven and untested pedagogy is a retired high school teacher named Rüneth. He said the idea for the teacherless classroom slowly dawned on him as he watched this performance on YouTube of John Cage’s musical composition, 4’33.*
“The concept popped into my mind at around 1:23, and by the four-minute mark, I said six words into my voice recorder app on my phone that would change my approach to teaching forever: "Music without sound. Class without teacher."
In our next post, "These Flies Are Lords Over Themselves,” we hide under the teacher’s desk with Rüneth to secretly observe classroom students as they engage in genuine interactions with each other, unencumbered by any adult supervision at all. Sounds fascinating, doesn’t it?
